What make Acne Worse?

  • Changing hormone levels in adolescent girls and adult women 2 to 7 days before their menstrual period starts.
  • Picking and squeezing the spots may cause further inflammation and scarring.
  • Stress or emotional tension. Stress can make acne worse in some people.
  • Oil from skin products (moisturizers or cosmetics) or grease encountered in the work environment (for example, a kitchen with fry vats).
  • Environmental irritants, such as pollution and high humidity.
  • Discontinuing birth control pills. Some women get acne when they stop taking birth control pills. The pills may have been keeping their acne at bay.
  • Steroids can cause acne as a side-effect.
  • Certain medicines and chemicals.
